Remembering Terri Schiavo
Citizens Concerned for Human Life mourns the loss of Terri Schiavo and every other innocent human being who has died in similar circumstances. It is important never to forget Terri Schiavo.
Visit Terri's Fight to learn more about Terri Schiavo. Terri experienced court ordered starvation and dehydration. Terri was not on life support. She was on a feeding tube. This is basic care; it is not extraordinary care. In fact, AFTER Terri's tragedy began, the Florida Legislature amended the laws to declare feeding tubes "extraordinary" care.
If the inability for one to place food and liquid in their own mouth means that one is receiving "extraordinary care," then every infant is also receiving "extraordinary care."
The public was not allowed to see photographs or video of Terri as she went through a process of dying that the public was assured was "peaceful." A police officer was stationed in the room to ensure the family did not smuggle in any cameras, tape recorders, or even water for her parched mouth. Adults and even children were arrested when trying to bring water to an innocent woman who was dying due to court-ordered dehydration.
Terri's life was not in vain, however. She woke us up to the OTHER side of the Culture of Death. Through her suffering, she has made people aware of the fact that the the Culture of Death does not just target innocent human babies via abortion or embryos via embryonic stem cell research. Through satan's sickening desire to corrupt souls, the Culture of Death targets people even after birth. As we saw from Terri's case, this is not limited to the elderly. Terri was forty-one years old. The victims can be of any age from a few hours after birth to more than 100.
There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution which states anyone has a "right to die." Nobody should feel like they have lost their "right" to die. Humans do not have the right to initiate death. And when death is not initiated by human beings, God will initiate it at a time of His choosing.
While the media will likely not devote the amount of attention that they gave to Terri Schiavo to anyone else, please realize that this happens quite frequently. It is important to always keep this in mind. There is no right to die in God's Law or in the U.S. Constitution. Please take a careful examination of the Fourth Amendment - the word "privacy" is not present. In fact, it is not present in the entire U.S. Constitution. However, we know two things. 1) Terri Schiavo left NO written instructions. 2) Terri Schiavo's husband and certain in-laws (relatives of her HUSBAND) claim she verbally stated certain things that Terri's own relatives vigorously dispute. In Terri Schiavo's case, because she did not specify any wishes on paper, the court ordered her to die via starvation and dehydration. Please take a deep breath and then reread that sentence. Again, there is NO "right to die." However, the court erred on the side of death in a case where the wishes of the individual were not even known. The court accepted verbal statements from one side of the family. Please read the Michael Schiavo interview on this CNN Transcript carefully.
Terri was twenty-six (26) years old when she became disabled. Beyond those serving in the military, how many 26-year olds even think about such issues? It is important that everyone, no matter how young, realize the courts may err on the side of death in their case should they become incapacitated.
Goodbye, Terri. You put up a very strong fight. May we never forget you.
