Alleged "Right to Die"
The term "choice" has been twisted to argue for keeping legalized abortion. The term "right to die" is now being used to advance the Culture of Death's more recent assault on life.
Euthanasia and assisted suicide clearly are not new. They have been going on for quite some time. The tragedy of Terri Schiavo, however, has brought this evil to the forefront.
Every person is going to die at some point. It is inevitable. The term "right to die" however, is used to describe a death when we choose. We do NOT have that right. ONLY God, as the Author of Life, has the right to decide when our life on this earth ends. There is a vast difference between artificial life support such as a ventilator and nutrition/hydration via a feeding tube with NO artificial life support.
Although we do not have a right to decide when we are going to die, there was clear dispute about the idea that these were even Terri's wishes. The case was framed by some in the media as a "right to die" case. This was not a case where Terri clearly wrote down her wishes and some were (rightfully) fighting to preserve God's Right to determine the time of one's death. This was a case where there was serious dispute about whether someone truly wanted to die in this manner.
This reframing can gradually bring about acceptance from those who are weakly opposed to an evil or who may not know the specifics. Nobody wants to think that any "rights" are being taken away. When this is framed as a "right," it evokes strong response.
